Sonny was a stud fee pup selected for me by Carma Futhey, owner of the dam, Holway Joyful ***. Joy was a sister of AFC Holway Barty, both were English imports from the famous Holway kennel of June Atkinsons. Carma bred Joy only once and chose FC AFC Bonnie Brook's Red as the sire.
 
At that time my home club, the Mid Illinois Retriever Club, held a lot of club trials - about six a year. Everybody had a good time and had a chance to run their dogs in local competition. We had great times with Sonny in those trials. We ran a few licensed derbies and qualifyings also. Sonny won his second licensed qualifying in October of 1979.
 
Sonny was entirely amateur trained and handled. He had lots of style, was very affectionate and eager to please, and he led a long healthy life.
 
*Editors note - This was Harold's second Golden to Title. He went on to title three more and is working on another, who is currently running derbies. Harold's first titled golden was FC AFC Bonnie Brook's Red, who we featured in Mid June.
