Taken from Vol. VII NO. 1 of The Golden Retriever News February, 1958

News of the passing of one of the breeds outstanding dogs was received near the end of 1957. Ch AFC Lorelei's Golden Rockbottom UD owned by Reinhard M Bischoff died during the night of December 22, 1957. Rocky had developed a small hematoma in one ear which was operated on. He never came out of the anesthetic and died by Bish's bedside.
A beautiful tribute written by "Torch" Flinn, who knew Rocky so well, follows:
"Nature bestows true greatness on so few on her children and Rocky, from the first, showed the signs of physical perfection, speed, courage, and intelligence that marked him as one apart.
With maturity he more than fulfilled his promise by becoming the only dog to ever attain the heights in every phase of dog work--A bench champion of far above average caliber evidenced by his many sporting group wins and best in show--A trial dog whose unfailing nose, bird sense, keenness, and speed never left him even at an age when dogs are expected to slow up--An obedience dog who in 1-1/2 years completed all three degrees among the highest scorers.
In his extremely short career as a sire he produced 6 champions and several qualified field trial dogs. Those who were fortunate enough to breed to him in his early youth should consider themselves honored and privileged to carry on his heritage."

* Honorary member of the GRCA Dual Champions Hall of Fame. The AKC does not recognize a Show Champion & Amateur Field Champion as a Dual Champion.

Editors note: Rocky's sire goes back within 3 generations to the famous breeding of CH Speedwell Pluto & Saffron Chipmonk. Rocky is in the background of many of our present day competitors through his most noted son - CH Little Joe of Tigathoe.
