owner: Sharon Long

Sharon picked Ric up at 7 weeks of age and immediately started
training him for his long and illustrious career. They were a team hard
to beat for many years.
Shown winning his 100 th High in Trial, Ric was still competing at 13 years
of age. He earned a 200 in Open B at the age of 12 in Houston, Texas. He
earned over 3600 lifetime OTCH points (according to the old, original point
system) and is still ranked nationally in the top ten. Ric won Super Dog
at the Gaines Regional in Ann Arbor in April 1980 and went on to place 3rd
at the 1980 Classic in Denver, Colorado (where he met Barty, his father).
Ric was the Ken L Ration Obedience winner in 1982 and 1983. He traveled
with Sharon (He went everywhere with her) to New York City when they received
their first Ken L Ration Award. He won the GRCA Toby Trigger award in 1982
and 1983.
Ric amassed 150 High in Trials over a career that spanned from 1978 until
his retirement in 1989. At one time he had a "run" of 42 straight
qualifying scores in Utility. Ric is a member of the GRCA Obedience Hall
of Fame and is an Outstanding Sire. He died at 14.5 years of age (11/16/90).
In tribute to Ric, his friends created the "Topbrass Ric O Shay Barty
Trophy" to be awarded to the GRCA member whose Golden Retriever has
a field title and accumulates the most High Combined Awards in a calendar
year.
Sharon now has a young Topbrass Dog named Gene that she is currently
campaigning in Obedience and Hunt Tests.
