Tom Glen acquired Razz in November of 1987, just prior to her second birthday. Before that, she was owned by Dave Rutherford and was being trained by the Canadian professional trainer-Dan Devos. During her Junior career, (derby in the US) she earned 48 points to make her top Junior dog in Ontario and second top Junior dog in Canada. She also earned an Open fourth. During the following summer when Tom took Razz home, she had already won an Open, and placed third in another Open. Over the rest of the season, Razz was run mainly in Amateurs and earned seventeen All-Age points for the year including an Amateur win. From then on, Razz went south to the U.S. with Dave Thompson until Jamie Balesdent took over Nilak Kennels in 1992. If not run by Tom, Razz was run and trained by Jamie.

Razz earned both her titles as a three year old - the youngest golden in Canada. to accomplish this. By the 1991 Canadian Amateur National, Razz had earned some fifty All Age points, including a Double - Header in June of 1991. Razz continued to earn All Age points at a consistent rate and won her last trial in June of 1996 as a 10 1/2 year old. That fall, just before the Canadian National, she developed cancer in her right eye and was retired. By then she had amassed over one hundred thirty All Age points, which represents an all time record for a Golden of either sex in Canada.

She ran as honorary test dog at the 1997 Canadian National Open (pictured on right above).

Razz and Tom's field trialing highlights include winning the Canadian National Amateur Field Trial - the only Golden female to win a National stake in Canada, and the second Golden ever in Canada to win any National Field Trial. The first was AFC NFTCH AFTCH Oakcreek's Van Cleve, who won the 1952 National Open. Other great moments were the Double - Header she won in June of 1991, and going over the one hundred All Age point barrier on June 24, 1994. This was a particularly special day for Razz and Tom, since his close friend, Torch Flinn, was running the same trial. They had spent a week and a half training together. Other memorable events include the Amateur stake that Razz won in June of 1996 because the dog that came in second was her daughter, also owned and run by Tom, FTCH AFTCH Cedarpond Beetlejuice Razcal, who earned both titles at four years of age.

Razz has been no slough in the breeding department either. She was bred three times to FTCH AFTCH Shurmark's Split Decision to produce FC FTCH AFTCH Cedarpond Brasdor Skywalker, FTCH Cedarpond Nike and AFTCH Cedarpond RV. Then bred to AFC Topbrass Super Trooper, the result was FTCH AFTCH Cedarpond Beetlejuice Razcal. Her last litter was by Wraith's Duncan***, Razz has two youngsters doing well: Cedarpond Sparks Will Fly - 8th on the Top Ten Junior list and Cedarpond's Wraith's Treat with Derby points including a win and placements in Qualifying.

But given all of Razz's accomplishments and qualities, the aspect that Tom holds most dear is her sweet personality and fierce loyalty. And these are qualities which one comes to appreciate more and more as we differentiate between our daily lives and the world of training and field trialing. Tom says now that Razz is a retired pet "It is at this time that I know I really have a dog!"
