AFC Glenhaven Devil's Advocate UDT MH

DOB 12-14-84

breeder - owner: Glenda Brown of Santa Barbara, CA

by Glenda F. Brown

Luke appeared on the scene as the result of my wanting to put a WC on his dam, OTCH Meadowpond Especial One UDT SH WCX (Sprite). Sprite was really turned on by the field training and so was I. As a result, I bred Sprite to a Red Devil son named Smoke'n Red Apache ***, and kept Luke from the litter.
Luke was the first Golden in Southern California to earn a Master hunter title and was the first Golden in the US to earn all three hunt test titles. He was also the first golden in California to earn the NAHRA Working Retriever title. From hunt tests, I started running him in the Qualifying Stake and he earned his two first places all too quickly and I was forced into competing against the big boys before I really even understood what field trials were all about.
Luke earned his three obedience titles in slightly over a year while competing in field trials . His formal obedience training was limited, but he managed to earn placements at each level including a first place and several seconds. Luke found obedience rather boring compared to a freshly shot pheasant, however he is the only golden with a Utility Dog title who is in the GRCA Field Dog Hall of Fame.
Luke had four Amateur wins and four Open seconds. He earned 44 1/2 All Age points and qualified for two National Amateurs. Luke became a GRCA Outstanding Sire with his first litter, and with limited breeding, has produced dogs competing in the field, obedience and tracking. He also has three pups who are certified Search and Rescue dogs.
He is a dearly loved member of our family and has always been a house dog and slept in the motel room when on the road. At age 12 1/2, he resembles a majestic old lion with hardly any gray hair. He tells the young guys what to do, still loves to retrieve and continues to mark well, and goes for runs with my husband. He is a wonderful companion and has more than fulfilled my hopes and dreams.

**Editor's note - Glenda is very involved with field trialing competing in Open and Amateur with a Luke son, DD's Especial Triever. She also has a promising youngster just out of derby, plus a black lab that she qualified for the 1997 National Amateur in Hibbing, MN.
